(More customer reviews)I found this model Deni Ice Cream maker at a thrift store at a very low cost. I had no idea that it was such a great item, but the price made it worth finding out.
I've been so surprised at being able to easily have homemade ice cream with such little effort.
Just freeze the tub (it should be sitting upright so the gel freezes evenly around the walls of the bowl). After 12 hours or so it is ready to go.
I make sure the ice cream mix is well chilled, as the ice cream will be ready much faster that way. I've found if I have some leftover ice cream
in the freezer, I will add a few chunks to the mix and it will cool it down even more rapidly for quick freezing. The ice cream mix begins to build on the sides right away and it is necessary to give a few turns of the handle so the paddle won't freeze firmly to the bowl. I also wrap a towel around the sides and put one folded over the top, to keep have the "chill" work faster.
I found this Deni ice cream maker, during the season that Egg Nogg and boiled custard is available in dairy section. I really love that I can
have a simple way to get great tasting ice cream. I've added a bit of
evaporated milk, some sugar and vanilla flavor with vanilla bean seeds to the boiled custard (since it doesn't have nutmeg). I will put this in a
quart jar then put on the lid, shake thoroughly and then pour into the
bowl. Put in the paddle and put on the lid, give a few turns. I cover with a towel. Then go about with chores. I come back in 5 to 10 minutes, give a few turns, cover and go about my chores. After repeating this a few times.............there will be a quart of freshly made ice cream waiting to be devoured. If I immediately empty, rinse and freeze the bowl (before the gel thaws too much), it will become cold enough in just a few hours to make another batch.
A big plus with the manual ones, is that there is no noise.
I am surprised that these manual ones are virtually impossible to find, since they are such a great product.

I have called the distributor "Unbeatable sales" 3 times and written an e-mail once. Customer service does not respond or answer their phones.
I think I have figured out now why they only give a 30 day warranty, they know it's a piece of junk. I have lost about $125 buying from this company so I can safely say:
I would never buy again from this company.

(More customer reviews)This machine was less than $300 and worked like similar models I have that were priced over $1000. The machine itself does what it is advertised to do . . .shave ice. It shaves the ice quickly, efficiently, and it is as soft and fluffy as they say it is. My kids love the shaved ice. The only thing I would say is that you need to make sure the ice is centered properly. We had a block that was off center and I thought the machine was going to dance off the counter. :) All in all a great machine.

(More customer reviews)I am appalled at how insensitive this product is to Leonardo DiCaprio's family. This is too soon after such a horrible tragedy. To see the realistic ice ship crash off the glacier in my Gin was brutal. To make matters worse the ship melts and disappears into a sea of Gin as if the event never happened. I accidentally swallowed a half melted ship and it was like swallowing death.
Too soon Fred and all your friends... Too soon.

(More customer reviews)Are the materials cheaply produced? When we took it out of the box, we were blown over by the chemical smell. After soaking the wooden tub, it went away, but my sinuses were burning by then.
Then we made the ice cream and that part was fun. But the motor stopped before the ice cream was frozen. Also, a disappointing thing happened - I could taste an aluminum aftertaste in the ice cream from the aluminum bowl. The ice cream literally tasted like aluminum foil. We have to take this back for a refund. We are looking for one with a steel bowl now.
Overall, a disappointing experience. I gave it one star because that was the only way to proceed making the review.

Notice, this is lower than the 0C/32F to make ice. If your freezer will not go this low, don't buy the product, if you don't know how low your freezer temp will get check before you buy the product. If the canister is not frozen at a low enough temperature the product will not perform satisfactorily. This information should be made clear before purchase.

(More customer reviews)I highly recommend this ice cube tray for freezing homemade baby food. The lid just sits on top, so it doesn't get stuck and is tall enough that it doesn't smash the food being frozen. The food "cubes" are super easy to get out if you just run some warm water over the bottom, then hold the tray upside down over the lid and punch the flexible bottom of each compartment - the "cubes" just fall right into the lid! Very convenient! The compartments only hold 1/2 oz. each, half the size of standard ice cube trays, but that just makes it easier to defrost, so I don't see that as a negative. I originally ordered two of these, but for the bulk of food I make, I think I may buy two more. (Just as a clue for how much they hold, one pureed sugar pumpkin filled up two trays with a little pumkin left over.)

(More customer reviews)This is great as an ice tray; you don't have to run water over the bottom, crack and twist the tray, and then get splintered ice, drips all over your kitchen, and too many or too few cubes. You don't have to turn it upside down; just push from the bottom and get exactly however many cubes--I mean, hearts! you want, with no breakage or mess. So I think it's a little more sanitary too--you don't have to handle the ice shapes much, or have them skittering all over the counter! The tray is a little soft and flexible so you do have to find a flat place in the freezer for it, and when I stacked another tray on top I got a little bit of "stickage" and a few misshapen hearts; not a big deal unless you wanted perfectly shaped decorative ice.
Tonight I also used them to make chocolates (by melting chocolate chips & peanut butter together), and am very pleased with how easy it is to remove the candies. I thought I might break the "points" off some of the hearts, but the silicone is stretchy so that didn't happen, and removing one doesn't disturb the others. These would make lovely butter pats too! Each well holds exactly one tablespoon of liquid.

(More customer reviews)This worked well, but not for kids. It was too heavy and all the adults ended up having to roll it. They also lost interest in about 10 minutes--which wasn't long enough to finish making the ice cream.
Since the first time we've used it, the adults roll it around (gently as it can leak if you're too rough). We know what we're in for, so it's not too bad.
I picked the big one as the reviews for the smaller one made it sound like the small one is difficult to clean.
Cleaning has been fine on this model. And the ice cream tastes pretty good!

(More customer reviews)Every summer we hear the sound of the ice cream trucks as they weave their way through our neighborhood, and it can get a bit costly over a week if we indulge in the frozen treats offered by them. It was for that reason that we began to look into making our own popsicles and frozen treats.
These Progressive International Freezer Pop Sticks offer an excellent start for us to make our frozen treats on a stick, and it's an excellent way to create concoctions that are not only easy to do, but fun for all involved. Homemade popsicles can save money, reduce the trash that we toss, and will help to save resources. They are fun to make, as kids love to experiment with different combinations.
But a few words of caution: please note that there is a big difference between the Craft Sticks found here and the ones being reviewed. Craft sticks are just for use with crafts, while the ones in this review are essentially a food-grade item, though they can be used for crafts as well... think of these as being dual-purpose.
You can make your own frozen pops using waxed paper cups or a mold, such as the Progressive International Freezer Pop Maker which will mold then into a more convenient and traditional shape. Using one of these also reduces the chance of spillage accidents in the freezer, which is something that many of us learn the hard way. The main thing to remember is to keep it simple, and have fun sharing the experience.
Here are a couple of our favorite easy recipes, proven by trial and error:
Quick & Easy Creamsicles
1 (6 oz.) can frozen Florida orange juice concentrate
1 (6 oz.) can water
1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened, (or vanilla yogurt)
Mix ingredients in a blender or with a power hand mixer for 30-45 seconds. Pour into molds, insert sticks, and freeze. Makes about seven, 2.5 oz. creamsicles.
Strawberry-Orange Popsicles
1 quart Florida orange juice
2 cups strawberries, frozen or fresh
3 tablespoons sugar (omit if using sweetened strawberries)
1 cup vanilla yogurt or softened vanilla ice cream
Blend till smooth or not-so-smooth, depending on preference. Pour into molds and freeze. Makes about twelve 2.5 oz. popsicles
Note: with any of the above, add the popsicle sticks after your creation has partially set for about 15 minutes.

Homemade popsicles are cool (and no pun intended) because you can make them healthy, organic, and with the type of ingredients you like.

Cuisinart ICE-25 Classic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker Review

(More customer reviews)This design was given to me as a gift, replacing a Krups La Glaciere that had worked well for a few years before the coolant began leaking into the freezing chamber. In terms of freezing and mixing ability - the only real differences between ice cream makers at this low-end level - the Cuisinart works very well. In fact, it seems to hold its temperature longer than the Krups model, perhaps due to the extra bit of insulation afforded by "freezing chamber in bucket" design. Also, for those familiar with the Krups, the Cuisinart actually rotates the bucket rather than the dasher; odd at first, but it works fine, and allows for faster assembling of the component parts when you're starting the freezing process. The only (minor) complaint I have is that, if you are making a sizable batch, the ice cream frequently starts to pour over the top of the dasher as it expands, even if you follow the instructions for how high the freezing chamber should be filled. It doesn't spill out of the unit, however, and the freezing process doesn't seem to be significantly disturbed. In short - the Cuisinart is worth the buy, and will produce ice cream that's as good as your recipe allows.
