The counter-depth cabinet integrates well into the kitchen, the surfaces are easy to keep clean, and the functionality is terrific. The shallow but wide refrigerator compartment puts everything right in view at eye level and the bottom freezer bin allows frozen stuff to be stacked up without the risk of it falling out on your foot. You have the convenience of chilled water through the door without the mechanical challenges of an ice dispenser.
I do have some minor quibbles. The door shelves and bins are almost - but not quite - big enough for a gallon of milk or an 18-pack of eggs. An extra quarter inch or so there would be welcome.
And then there's the icemaker. It doesn't make a ton of ice (a dozen small cubes every 3 hours or so), but it's plenty for my family, so I'm not taking points off there. The problem is that the feed tube tends to freeze up. It's an easy fix - there's a small heater that eliminates the problem - and it's covered under warranty. But still. The tech says the manufacturer leaves the heater off in order to get an Energy Star rating; sounds to me like removing a spark plug to increase gas mileage.
These quibbles would ordinarily make me give the fridge 3.5 - 4 stars, but the other reviews are so unfair that I figured a bump is in order. Seriously, somebody's slamming this fridge because his dryer didn't work? And another review complains about the unit because the repair guy didn't have parts in his truck? Seriously, those are problems with the dryer and the repair guy; there's nothing wrong with the fridge. According to the guy who came out to fix my icemaker, this is a well-made and reliable refrigerator. I recommend it.

But a defect inside allowed the glass shelves to fall off their pegs, just as you put a gallon of milk on it. Bosch came out and condemned the unit. I was impressed. Out comes #2 refrig. Plugged it in and the compressor sounded awful. A metallic rubbing sound inside the compressor. Could hear it across the house. Ice maker did not work. Out came Bosch, who replaced the ice maker but said the compressor was fine. Well the compressor noise has gotten louder, and now the ice maker died again. Also the refrig has a door open alarm feature. Well, my kids left a fruit drawer out a little, which caused the door not to close all the way. I woke up the next morning to a refrigerator that was 50 degrees inside, and no alarm sounded. Out comes Bosch for the third time. He condemns the compressor, ice maker, and a computer board. I contact customer service and demand a new machine, as it is only 2 months old. "Sorry, our warranty says we fix it, so thats what you get" She also refuses to let me talk to anyone higher than her " I am as high as you can get" she says.
I purchased it from Fergusen Enterprises, a wholesaler to the construction market. Jeff at Fergusen in Downers Grove Illinois, stepped in and pressured Bosch to replace the unit. We are currently waiting for Unit #3 to arrive.

(More customer reviews)The delivery people dropped this off, and we unplugged it almost immediately due to a high pitched, headache-inducing noise when the compressor comes on (verified by visitors to our home). The service person from our vendor came the next day, agreed upon the noise and thought there was an issue with the compressor. He had our salesperson replace our refrigerator with another new one. The new one had the same problem, so we contacted Bosch directly and they sent their representatives out. They could not find an issue with it. Our vendor's service person came out again and called his Bosch representative, who noted a similar problem with a prior model and suggested replacing a board. The board was replaced, but the problem persists. Bosch and our service person had no alternative solutions and we are now returning the refrigerator altogether.
We purchased several other Bosch appliances at the same time (dishwasher, stove, washer, dryer) and found them all to be great; sturdy and quiet. We are extremely disappointed and unsure what we will end up buying. The only other Bosch refrigerators available to us are in the same series (we have 300, 500 and 800 appear to be the same except for more features) so we are afraid they will have the same problem and are looking at other manufacturers.

In certain areas outside of the icemaker, there was ice build-up. The seal between the icemaker and the ice holder was not working properly. There was a lot of water condensation between the two doors in the area around the seals. The service people who came to look at this said these problems were not normal. They said two major parts have to replaced. I have decided to replace this with a brand new model instead on having the one we bought serviced. I hope the new one works okay. If not, I am going to cancel the order and buy another refrigerator. It is a very expensive model (more than $ 2,500) and should have these problems like this.

GE SmartWater Inline Refrigerator Filter Kit (GXRLQ) Review

(More customer reviews)This is really nothing more than a taste filter - it does a pretty good job of making los Angeles water taste good - I use this to run to the water and ice maker in my fridge.
However, doing an actual water test, it does not remove a lot of the dissolved solids and minerals.
The overall system is fairly well made - it is easy to change filters and you do not have to turn of the water to do so as the filter head features an auto shut off when the filter is removed.
However, the attachment to the wall is a single screw, and the connectors for the water lines are not as robust as i might like (friction fit essentially - but then it IS all plastic and not brass.) this is probably better to use with plastic water line, as the flexibility of the plastic line should reduce stress at the fitting. I of course am using copper line, and thus my concern over the robustness of the fittings.

We did not shop around, but my husband and I both felt that "you really can't go wrong with GE" as we have purchased GE refrigerators and stoves before when we upgraded other properties we owned. Boy were we wrong. As soon as the refrigeator arrived we noticed that the quality was poor. Where do I begin???? there is an awkward seam down the back of the fridge that is not even centered and looks as though someone glued two pieces together. The clean steel scratches easily and if you look at at the top of the refrigerator you will note that the steel was applied as a sheet that covers only the front of the door and does not extend all the way to the edges (poor workmanship). The water/ice dispenser sticks some times. The glass inside the refrigerator is terrible quality and scratches easily. The same goes for the door compartments. Really, the quality is so bad that it makes me angry to think that we paid $1,750 total including taxes and delivery. I would have gladly paid more for a quality product. Again, we have owned other GE refrigerators that did not have these problems.

Whirlpool EVL202NXTN Silver Upright Freezer Review

(More customer reviews)The top of the freezer door arches down and causes the seal to follow this path. The frame of the freezer to which the seal is supposed to connect is straight across. The problem we are having is that the seal on the freezer door arches down beneath the metal frame of the freezer body and pulls away from it. This lets the cold air out, creates frost on the inside and causes the compressor to run 24/7.
Whirlpool has sent A&E out twice to fix it; each time they replaced the seal, and the last guy also put a new hinge on. This did not fix the problem, because the seal keeps following the downward arched path of the door. We have scheduled a third service call when the tech is supposed to call the Whirlpool tech line to see if it can be fixed. I have serious doubts about it, because it is a design flaw: a curved door and a straight frame.
If I could do it all over, I would NOT buy this freezer.

It arrived in an undamaged box, but the motor assembly had broken loose from it's mounts and was rattling around inside the case. There were also plastic pieces loose inside. I have to think it is a badly made product if it can't make it through UPS's system without breaking inside. I followed instructions to get return & refund info and Heartland America responded promptly and courteously. The refund was processed promptly too. My only complaint about Heartland America is that I had to pay all shipping charges. I think they should have paid for the return shipping.

(More customer reviews)We saw the Amana French-door bottom-freezer fridge about a year ago and fell in love with it. As it turns out, we have had a fairly mixed experience with it.
I'll say that there are quite a few things that we like about it. Overall, we like the layout and flexibility of this fridge a lot. All of the shelves are adjustable to allow for customizing the space for what we need. The layout makes the fridge feel bigger than the other 25 CF fridges we've used or looked at. The quality of the ice maker and water filtration is nice. I do find the bottom-freezer a nice feature for our family. The best feature of the French-doors for us is that they don't swing open as wide as conventional doors, which is good for energy usage and for not blocking passage through our tight kitchen. They're also convenient when you have to grab something quick out of the door.
That said, after using it a while, there are a few things that we don't like about this fridge:
1) After a few months of use, it started getting kind of loud. As it turns out, this was the sound of the cooling fan dying. When it finally died, we had no cold air in the fridge compartment. It was still under warranty, but I wasn't happy about replacing the fan after only about 7 months. (It's still occasionally louder than I'd prefer, but most of the time it is OK.)
2) The water filter dispenser is on the inside of the fridge compartment rather than on the outside of the unit. Combined with the fact that its flow is a little on the slow side, it seems to me that a lot of energy is wasted each time I have to leave the door open for 30 seconds to get a glass of water.
3) The top cover of the Chef's Pantry drawer is not the highest quality component. It pops off once every two weeks or so for me (though, in fairness, my wife doesn't report this problem, so it might just be me). It's easy to put back on, but something I don't feel that I should have to worry about with a $1600 fridge.
Overall, we probably would buy the same fridge again. I'd probably pass on the water filtration option until they figure out a way to get access from the outside of the fridge. I'd probably also want to make sure to get the extended warranty.

(More customer reviews)Amazon is great. Purchase products all the time from them. However my wife and I purchased a brand new KitchenAid refrigerator from Western Appliance in August 2008. From the moment we got it, we've had problems. First the inside light malfunctioned, then the digital readout. The repairman has been here 4 times to try to repair it and now that all the parts have been replaced still has no idea what's wrong with it. The ice machine quit working on the third service call, and we have no ice.
I have made numerous phone calls to Western Appliance, spoken to Leo, the salesperson, and the manager. They just tell me to call the Repairman.
This Saturday will be the fifth visit by another repairman from a different service. We get the runn around when we ask for a replacement from western Appliance, repair service center and KitchenAid. Even though we purchased an extended warranty. I even called KitchenAid myself and was told that even if we purchased the warranty, it does not cover lemons or replacements.
Their service is atrocious at best, and now that they have made a sale, we are virtually ignored or fobbed off. Worst of it is, the repair company under their contract has no idea what they're doing.
This is the worst service I've ever encountered from an appliance store or manufacture. DO NOT BUY ANY APPLIANCES FROM WESTERN APPLIANCE or KITCHENAID. You will regret it if it should ever malfunction.
It is now Novenber 2008 and I have NO LIGHTS, NO DIGITAL READOUT, AND NO ICE from my brand new KitchenAid refrigerator, and am waiting for a "second Opinion" from another repair co, while being ignored by Western Appliance.
I am so frustrated with all the waiting and phone calls I've had to make, not to mention all the work time I've lost waiting the 4 hours window for the repairmen to show up. I was on hold one hour with the mother company only to be told I had to get a second opinion from another repair co. How long does this have to go on before we can get a functioning refrigerator?
Western Appliance, South Bay Repair and KitchenAid should really look at their practices and know that they are losing many potential and future customers because I will tell any and all who will listen about the shoddy way they treat their customers.
I also intend to notify consumer agencies as well as the Better Business Bureau, because I've had enough of their stall tactics.

(More customer reviews)This refrigerator is well designed. We seem to be able to fit everthing, while still looking organized. The added space in the freezer is also great. The two design flaws for us are the lack of an egg holder in the fridge and the butter section is too high and deep to be of optimal usage. Our refrigerator has also had problems with the icemaker. It was initially overproducing the ice (so much so that when we opened the freezer, ice would fall out); then I think the excess ice broke the unit so that no ice was being made. LG provided service, and the technician replaced the ice maker three weeks ago. Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem again. First too much ice, and now none. A technician is supposed to come in two days to try fixing it again!!! I hope it works, because it is becoming a nuisance. I don't know if it's a problem with all the SpacePlus refrigerators, or if we are experiencing bad luck. I would not recommend this fridge though, based on our experience.

(More customer reviews)Very loud fan noise. The fan on this refrig. is about as loud as a bathroom exhaust fan. I've never heard a new refrig with such a loud fan. The draws don't slide real smoothly.
On the positive side, the shelves are good, lots of room inside for tall containers, and the price is good for basic (but noisy) refrigerator.

(More customer reviews)We needed a cabinet depth refrigerator with ice and water through the door, preferably a french door model. Samsung makes the largest for this price. Electrolux has some but they are much pricier and do not have the rep for reliability. We bought ours locally from an appliance dealer during Columbus day weekend. Just had it delivered January 5th. We got it earlier than needed for the price and the dealer had no problem holding it for us.
Since plugging it in it has worked flawlessly. Keeps the freezer and refrigerator temps where set. Water out the door is cold and has a good taste due to the filter. Makes a lot of ice. No problem in that regard. Runs almost silently. the stainless front panel is beautiful.
We moved down in size from a Kitchen Aid 27 cubit foot side by side so there were some adjustments. On the cabinet depth models that are 36" wide you don't get as much door storage as you would like but that is not a fault of the machine. Just a fact.Something you need to consider.
